Quick update on what I am reading/teaching

Quite often I get asked what I am reading through.  My book obsession is known by many.  I am on a big Hermeneutics kick lately.  I’ve been focusing most of my reading on that subject.  Here is a list of the books I am currently working through and my progress.

Hermeneutics of the Biblical Writers – Abner Chou

  • One of THE best books I’ve ever read.  Traces themes throughout Scripture.  Explains in detail how the authors of Scripture understood other portions of Scripture.  If you have any interest in Hermeneutics, please pick this book up.  This book has put me in Scripture so much and I am so thankful for the work Abner did.
  • I have about 30 pages left of this book

The Conversion of the Imagination: Paul as Interpreter of Israel’s Scripture – Richard B Hays

  • Just starting this book.

Echoes of Scripture in the Gospels – Richard B Hays

  • Will start this when I finish Abner’s book

Handbook on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament – G.K. Beale

  • Just arrived this week

Power in the Pulpit: How to prepare and deliver expository sermons – Jerry Vines and Jim Shaddix

  • Through 5 chapters.  I am in a Sermon Prep class in Seminary and this is one of my textbooks

Preaching for the rest of us: Essentials for text-driven preaching- Robby Gallaty

  • Through 3 chapters.  This is my other textbook for my Sermon Prep class.

Just started Ephesians.  First section was Ephesians 1:1-6 and I will continue teaching through chapter 1 this week.
